Maybe you have some questions

MAYBE i HAVE SOME ANSWERS...

WHERE ARE YOU LOCATED?

I'm located in Haberfield, right near the Bay Walk in Sydney. If you jump onto Google Maps and type in alphapsych; I should come right up. If not, you can check on this page for more information

HOW DO I BOOK AN APPOINTMENT?

Simple! Give me a call, or send me an email. I will get back to you within 24 hours and look at a convienent time to book an appointment that suits you.

WHAT TIMES ARE USUALLY AVAILABLE?

Currently, I am available on Thursdays and Saturdays face-to-face. Although, with these uncertain times, I am offering telehealth consultations on different days and times. I am pretty tailored to you, so send me a message and I can see what we can work out.

HOW MUCH?

Prices vary. This is all dependant on your circumstances. At alphapsych, I am currently unable to offer the Medicare rebate - but that's explained a bit more below.

I HAVE A MENTAL HEALTH PLAN?

Unfortunately, psychotherapy and counselling isn't recognised as an official service that can be regulated under the Medicare Mental Health Plan (Better Access Scheme). There are plenty of reasons for this! There are plenty of people in Australia (and probably around the world) that refer to themselves as a 'counsellor' without any formal qualifications. This is still a work in progress. Although Alex is clinically registered with the Psychotherapy and Counselling Federation of Australia (PACFA), this is still the case.

WHAT ARE YOUR QUALIFICATIONS

Easy! If you haven't already checked out the ABOUT ME page, I have a Bachelors Degree in Psychological Science and a Masters in Psychotherapy and Counselling. Both of these degrees have allowed entry as a Clinical Member of PACFA - a body formally recognised by the Australian Government. Being apart of PACFA means that I am obliged to adhere to strict regulations around record keeping, ethical procedures, Professional Development and Supervision from a Clinical Psychologist.

WHAT IS MANDATORY REPORTING?

If any practitioner becomes aware of the following, it must be reported to the relevant body. - If a child is at harm or has been harmed - If you threaten harm toward yourself or others - If you threaten suicide - If you disclose any information about a serious crime that has not been reported to the authorities.

WHAT IS YOUR SPECIALTY?

The main specialty at alphapsych is addiction management and recovery, those who are affected by the criminal justice system, relationship issues and trauma. Ask me if you're unsure about your current circumstances.

HOW LONG IS A SESSION?

Generally 50 minutes! Let me know if you require a shorter or longer session - I can always accomodate!

BUT I HAVE PRIVATE HEALTH CARE?

Unfortunately, just like the Medicare Scheme - I am unable to take insurance at this point in time.

WHAT'S YOUR THERAPUTIC APPROACH?

It is really dependant on what you prefer! I have experience working with ACT, CBT and psychodynamic.

I NEED A DIAGNOSIS AND MEDICATION?

Sure! But I am unable to provide these for you. Please contact your local GP or hospital for more information.

ARE YOU A PSYCHOLOGIST?

Nope! Psychotherapy is a bit different to Psychology. We have different modalities and dfifferent bodies in which we are governed by.
